The Year 2034 is the Last Light

4 May, 2011

Metro 2033. Does the name ring a bell? Perhaps not, since this post-apocalyptica monster shooter flew quietly under the radar for most of us, as the title was released only for the PC and Xbox 360. It was a surprisingly decent game, and for those who picked it up, it was great entertainment, carefully crafted by Russian studio 4A Games.

After Metro 2033 was released to positive reviews last March, THQ announced that a sequel would be made, named simply as Metro 2034. The official announcement of the name change to “Metro: Last Light” came just yesterday during an earnings report by THQ.

Perhaps we can interest you to try the first title before deciding whether to write-off Last Light. Like any self-respecting Post Apocalyptic landscape, Metro 2033 is a story revolving around the survival of people trapped in the intricate network of underground Metro Stations in Moscow. It has been twenty years since “an apocalyptic event” destroyed the world, and spawned dangerous and mutated monsters that roam freely.

Your protagonist is sheltered in the Underground and has never stepped foot outside of it until now, when you have to fight against other folk (think Raiders) living in the Underground and the monsters that have managed to come in from the outside. Sounding like Fallout? Wait until you see gameplay footage. It’s like Left 4 Dead and Fallout had a couple drinks together at a bar, swapped a few dirty stories, and woke up next to each other the next morning in a haze.

As of right now, no release date has been given for Metro: Last Light. There is also no word on whether or not PlayStation owners will see a port of this title.
