Be Damned in 10 Hours, or Quite Possibly Less. Or More.

Capcom better be watching its back, because Devil May Cry may be getting a run for its money. The upcoming title Shadows of the Damned is shaping up to be a formidable opponent in the Demon-Hunter-Fights-Crazy-Monsters-and-Then-Some action genre. Resident Evil mastermind Shinji Mikami and No More Heroes‘ Suda 51 have teamed up to create this ride through fire, and they have stated that the game itself will take a bit of time if you’re a completionist.

In a recent interview with MeriStation, Suda51 said that Shadows of the Damned can take up to 10 hours: “It depends on the degree of difficulty, probably about 10 hours. Maybe more if you try to collect everything.” If you enjoy being told to go somewhere for a mission and then promptly turn around and saunter off in the opposite direction, then this title is for you.

The story for Damned stars Garcia Hotspur (was it really necessary to include something fiery in his name?), a very angry demon hunter with a very large…er, weapon. His girlfriend is captured by infernal demons and he has to travel downwards to the City of the Damned to rescue her. Not quite as poetic as Visceral’s Dante’s Inferno, but if there’s big guns and explosions with the maiming of demons, it’s fair to say we’ll probably have a HELL of a lot of fun.

You’ll not be travelling alone, however, as by your side you have the aid of a mysterious “former demon” that can assume the form of millions of weapons. What they are, we don’t know, but gameplay footage shows a couple of different guns, and maybe there will be the obligatory sword.

Want to see it all in glorious action? Check out the fire, carnage, and big a** weapons in this trailer that debuted at GDC:

Shadows of the Damned promises to be “an in-your-face thrill ride” that combines Suda 51′s punk rock style and the psychadelic imaginations of Mikami. Akira Yamaoka of Silent Hill fame is joining in on the fun as well with legendary British punk band The Damned to provide us with some head-bangin’ tunes. Are you ready to be damned for the sake of love? Then get your guns ready, because Hell won’t be freezing any time soon.

Shadows of the Damned is being developed by Grasshopper Manufacture Inc., and is due out in June of this year for the PlayStation3 and Xbox 360.
