Put on Some Old School Glamour with L.A. Noire’s Soundtrack

9 May, 2011

You saw that right. Rockstar is releasing two soundtracks for the 1940s detective title L.A. Noire, and the 17th of May simply can’t get here fast enough. Why do you tease us mercilessly, Rockstar? Why?

Any serious audiophile who has a penchant for glamorous old jazz from ’40s America will love both of these soundtracks. Rockstar made an official announcement earlier today detailing the goodness in the tracks, which will be available for buying on iTunes next Tuesday. There’s no confirmation if the tracks will be available in any other format, but let’s hope there’s a chance of that, because some of us would like to see the physical albums along with some other cool swag.

One of the soundtracks is the official one, which, Rockstar says, was “inspired by the sweeping orchestral scores of the great films in the 1940s.” This album is all-original, composed by Andrew Hale (from the band Sade), and featuring vocals from Claudia Brücken (from the band Propaganda). Also contributing is none other than Woody Jackson, the award-winning composer who was behind the old western tunes of Red Dead Redemption. Also on the track will be a couple of numbers from the likes of Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Louis Armstrong.

The second soundtrack is entitled L.A. Noire: Remixed, and is described as “a modern take on the music found throughout the world of L.A. Noire.” Contributors include Dave Sitek, DJ Premier, and Truth & Soul. Whether the modern interpretations will be good or bad, we’re not sure yet, but Rockstar assures us that there will be additional information and song previews in the very near future.

Suddenly, next week seems ages away.
