Did Fable III leave you hungering for more? Want to traverse a beautiful landscape filled with quests, monsters, magic, and inspired by a fantastical author? If you answered yes to any of those questions, or if your curiosity has been peaked, then you’re in luck. Come next year, we’ll be seeing what may be the next blockbuster RPG in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Sounds intriguing? It sure is.
Set in Amalur, a world created by New York Times best-selling author R.A. Salvatore (Forgotten Realms series), Reckoning promises to be a big adventure with an extra large side of Epic. You really can’t go wrong when you hear that Ken Rolston, the lead designer of Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has been working with Todd MacFarlane of Spawn fame on this one.
So what exactly is Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning? It’s an “epic, open world role-playing game” that tosses us into a world that only Salvatore can conjure up. With brightly colored landscapes and a beautifully whimsical art style, the game certainly does remind the viewer of Fable III. But let’s not say this one is a knock-off. While there’s not a lot of official detail out there yet, the official website promises us that there will be much, much more to come in the next few weeks and months leading up to its launch sometime in 2012.
Immerse yourself into the world of Amalur in this announcement trailer, first released in July of last year:
And of course, with E3 looming large in the distance, we can’t help but yearn for more on this title that may have snuck away. Does it look fun? It sure does.
Developed by newcomers to the scene Big Huge Games and 38 Studios, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will be made available on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and the PC. All we know is that it’s time to journey into a land far away next year. Let’s just hope that we won’t be waiting for a long time to get started on our journey.
Oh yeah, did someone say they wanted another trailer? Check out their newest offering, “Visions”:
The bad news? We still have to wait to get our hands on this pretty little gem. Patience will certainly be a virtue in this case.
