Don’t scratch your head in confusion like that. Turtle Rock is best known for its work on Valve’s first Left 4 Dead title, and THQ has announced that they’ve signed up for the next title from the independent studio.
A brief rundown of Turtle Rock’s resume gives you Left 4 Dead, Counter-Strike: Source, and Counter-Strike: Condition Zero. With this addition, THQ is shaping up to be a contender in the years to come, with names like Patrice Désilets (head honcho of Assassin’s Creed), Tomonobu Itagaki (creater of Dead or Alive), and Guillermo del Toro (you really should know who this is by now) hanging out on THQ’s superstar talent list.
“Our quest to sign the best artists and work with the best talent continues,” said Danny Bilson, the Executive Vice President of Core Games, THQ. “Turtle Rock Studios is responsible for one of the most original, critically acclaimed co-operative games of this generation, and we are incredibly excited to be working with them on their next project, which looks set to make a similar impact in the multiplayer space.”
What exactly this project will be, we won’t know for quite a while. Set to be released in 2013, THQ won’t have anything to show us at the upcoming E3. Well, darn, but at least it’s something to look forwards to at next year’s E3 conference.
“We’re thrilled to be working with THQ,” said Phil Robb, COO of Turtle Rock Studios. “This project is the most ambitious thing we’ve ever attempted, and we’re inspired by the support THQ has shown to help us realize that vision. We’re going to take the first person shooter experience to a whole new level, and we can’t wait to show the game for the first time in the months ahead.”
Left 4 Dead was already awesome enough, but to see Turtle Rock taking things to a whole new level? Let’s hope some more news comes along and maybe a demo drops in time for PAX Prime, because the anticipation will probably cause a few fatalities along the way if we have to wait any more.
