THQ have just announced their upcming sequel to 2010′s ‘flawed masterpiece‘ Metro 2033. The game will be called Metro:Last Light and will be set in the lands of post-apocalyptic Moscow. The game hopes to be a ‘terrifying, atmospheric single-player adventure that fuses thrilling combat with exploration and survival horror to create a unique, memorable experience’.
Danny Bilson, EVP core game, THQ, had this to say on the game:
“We believe that Metro 2033 was a flawed masterpiece. It was a beautiful, original game that didn’t get the marketing support it needed. We won’t make that mistake with Metro: LastLight. This game improves on the original in every way – it will have more polish, deeper and more sophisticated gameplay, and satisfyingly visceral combat, without losing what our fans loved about the original. Metro: Last Light is another artful piece of game development from an Eastern European studio that will thrill and terrify anyone looking for a more cerebral experience than your typical first person shooter.”
Metro: Last Light’s bespoke 4A Engine Technology will add atmospheric lighting, awesome physics, and sweet destruction (my words, not THQs) to the game, ensuring Metro: Last Light looks at good as possible.
Here’s a bit of the back-story. The year is 2034, mankind is underground and under-siege from threats form both the outside and form within. A doomsday device, form the military vaults of D6, has the station-cities divided, in a time where unity is key. As Artyom, burdened by guilt but driven by hope, you hold the key to survival – the last light in our darkest hour.

Metro: Last Light is due to release for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC sometime next year.
