Three-dimensional, two-dimensional…who knows what to make of this one. El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron looks to be one very interesting game, combining a cel-shaded art style with the CGI we’re all accustomed to today.
If you shook your head in despair upon the mere mention of “cel-shaded art style,” then you’d better stop it right this instant. Feast your eyes upon the newest trailer from UTV Ignition Games, detailing the combat that will be found in El Shaddai.
The story is heavily inspired by the events that transpire in the Book of Enoch from the Old Testament. You play as Enoch, and your job is to master your combat skills, hone them, and retake the souls of seven renegade angels who have decided that Heaven isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.
Along the way, you’ll find four Archangels who have been assigned to watch over you as you progress through the game. Enoch has the ability to summon these guardians if the enemies become too overwhelming. Nothing like divine intervention in the form of a can of whoop ass.
Want to see even more? A whole new army of screens have also arrived, showing us that even these heavenly messengers can rock a sweet pair of denim.
Enoch and the guardian angels will be gracing us with their presence July 26th in North America and September 9th in Europe. Look for them on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
