E3 2011: Spyro’s latest to become ‘first-ever cross-platform gameplay experience’

6 Jun, 2011

Spryo’s latest adventure really is magical, it’s going to do something never done by any game before. Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure will enable you to create a Skylander on one platform and use it on any other. Which means, for the first time ever, you can create a character on the Xbox 360, then use it on a Playstation 3, then a 3DS, a mobile and even the web! Elements that can be carried over to each format include skill-advancements and level-ups.

Eric Hirshberg at Activision explains… “Imagine a kid taking his Skylanders toy and bringing it to life on his Xbox 360 one day, then bringing it to life on his friend’s PS3 the next day, then bringing it to life inside his 3DS and playing it in the back of his parents’ car the next day, then bringing it to life on the web the day after that, all the while, building his character’s strength and powers across all of those platforms,”

“It brings the physical and virtual worlds of play together in a whole new way.”

If they can pull it off, this would indeed be ground-breaking technology and extremely revolutionary. Could this be the first step to blurring the lines between consoles, erasing exclusivity features forever?

The tech will be showcased this week at E3.

Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure is scheduled for release this year on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, 3DS, PC, Wii, a variety of mobile devices and through the web.
