All Psychonauts publishing proceeds belong to Double Fine! Exciting Psychonauts news incoming?

Every once in a while, a quality game gets lost under the rubble of big commercial releases. It gets ignored by the consumer for a plethora of reasons, not least of which, poor marketing pushing the product. Titles that fit that bill include the likes of Okami, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Enslaved, Beyond Good & Evil and Psychonauts.

In the case of Beyond Good & Evil, a recent XBLA & PSN HD reboot has helped kick start sales again and finally helped the game achieve some of the recognition it deserves. Also, a ICO/Shadow of the Colossus collection is due for release on Playstation 3 very soon, which will also hopefully see the game reach more homes than ever before. Okami has even benefitted from a Wii-release and a DS sequel.

But what about Psychonauts?

Well, there’s finally some good news on that front. Double Fine studios, headed by gaming genius, Tim Schafer, have finally re-acquired the rights to their game from Majesco.

On Twitter, Anna Kipnis, Senior Gameplay Programmer at Double Fine, spilled the beans.

‘Omg Double Fine is now the sole publisher of Psychonauts! If you buy it now (on Steam, for instance), the proceeds go to us!’

Double Fine have always owned the intellectual property, but it is only now that they can reap the full benefits of their work. Just as it should be.

Anna also teased this in a later tweet.

‘Hang on Guys! Don’t rush out to buy Psychonauts just yet. Jumped the gun. Exciting DF Official Announcement coming!!’

I could be reading into things, but could this be news of an upcoming Psychonauts HD reboot? Or, even better, a sequel?!

Stay tuned to GGS Gamer for more details!
