After disappointment amongst the fans by their no show at E3, Valve have confirmed that they will be attending the European expo Gamescom in August this year. The website Go Nintendo published a list of the big developers confirmed to attend the event, with Valve standing amongst the likes of Ubisoft, Konami, SEGA and Capcom.
Speculation has been raging amongst the fan communities as to what surprises Valve will be bringing with them to the event, with the safest bet being the company’s current project DOTA 2, but naturally fingers and toes are being crossed for information on the forthcoming DLC for hit game Portal 2 and perhaps most importantly of all the elusive Half Life 2 Episode 3.
Downloadable content has been scheduled for two of Valve’s major titles namely of course Portal 2 which is due this summer and said to contain new maps for both co-op modes and single player. After that we have the new campaign and imported maps for Valve’s hit online zombie shooter Left 4 Dead 2, which will see for the first time community made maps on the console version of the game. Somewhat controversially the downloadable pack will import all the campaign maps from the original game into the sequel, which has dug up a lot of the old resentment which followed the initial announcement of the game’s sequel where many fans complained that Valve had not delivered on their promise to fully expand the original title with regular additional content.
Gamescom will start on August 18th and run through to the 21st, with a press and trade exclusive date on the 17th. Stay with us for the up-to-date coverage of this event as it happens!
The strong rumour is a new Half Life game. What i’ve heard is that the Episodes may have been scrapped and we may actually be looking at Half Life 3.
Seriously, Valve, it’s time. You’ve kept us waiting long enough. Make the announcement!!
Yeah I heard about their discarding episodic content, which is a real shame considering how long people have waited for episode 3. Still, a new Half Life game would be excellent news!
Let’s face it guys, It has nothing to do with HL3. If it did, they would have done a show @ E3. The main feature is gonna be DotA 2, followed by some portal 2 dlc and maybe some l4d2 dlc. Also Gabe is probably gonna talk about an experiment he’s been working on which probably has to do with free to play games. We all moved on quite a while ago about HL3 and we know that it’s not coming anytime soon. All of the sudden it’s mentioned that they’re gonna show up at Gamescom and you guys are screaming HL3 from the rooftops? Come on guys…
