Bungie Celebrate 20th Anniversary In Style: Blue Flames For All!

25 Jun, 2011

First things first: from the bottom of our hearts, we wish Bungie the happiest of returns for their 20th anniversary on the 7th of July. For me, they’re one of the best developers in the business, not to mention being lucky enough to have one of the best communities I’ve ever had the joy of being a part of. Here’s to the next 20 years.

Bungie aren’t going to quietly blow out their candles though. Oh no. As a token of their gratitude, Bungie are giving all Halo: Reach players who’ve linked their email and GamerTag to Bungie.net the elusive blue helmet flames and the Bungie name tag. They’ve exclusively been the tokens of Bungie staff members, but now they’re free for all to enjoy. To unlock these beasties, head over to Bungie’s website, log in, return to the home page, verify the email, then return to the site and click ready. Consider yourselves informed.

As well as this, Bungie have released a whole hoard of eBay auctions, with all proceeds going to charity. Included in the lovely lot is a framed concept art of the original Master Chief, the Arbiter and a variety of other Covenant baddies, not to mention a scale WETA model of a UNSC battle rifle. Go on. Bid. They’ve also got a funky new t-shirt to celebrate today, once again, with all proceeds going to charity. What a lovely bunch.

The other acclaimed game from Bungie, before Halo rocked the video game industry to the core, was Marathon: Durandal – and that’s now free for iPad. They’ll let us know as soon as it drops.

Finally, Reach players will have their chance to game with the developers in the 24 hour Steaktacular playlist, held on the 7th of July – Bungie Day. There’s some serious bragging rights on offer here – if your team beats a team of the Bungie staff by 20 kills or more, you all get a steak, straight from Bungie. Outside the US, winners will get a slightly-less awesome gift card.

Go on. Jump in.
