We all know how important it is to set the right tone and flavor of things with music. Things that make us smile, things that make us sad, things that make us angry…none of it would really work if the music wasn’t fitting. Safe to say, it is what brings the finishing touches to a masterpiece (or it might even make a steaming piece of slag sound quite good) and just sets the right mood.
With the upcoming Combat Evolved remake for Halo, fans will not only be treated to graphical updates, but they will also be treated to a bit of an audio upgrade as well. Oh yes, the love that fans will be feeling is going one step further. 343 Industries, the new studio responsible for the continuation of the beloved Halo universe, has confirmed that the original soundtrack, originally written by Martin O’Donnell and Michael Salvatori, will be “completely new” and remastered by Pyramind Studios.
By “completely new,” 343 Industries doesn’t mean it will be rewritten. The entire original soundtrack will be painstakingly redone with a little help from the Skywalker Symphony Orchestra, and Chanticleer, a Grammy Award winning men’s vocal ensemble that is the best of the best in the business. “It was a huge undertaking to transcribe, orchestrate, and produce every note from the original game soundtrack files,” said Lipson, the Audio Director and COO of Pyramind Studios. “Our team approached every aspect of the music with an immense amount of skill and care, keeping the core Halo sound while updating the production to today’s highest standards.”
“We are striving to create the ultimate love letter to Halo fans and celebrate Marty O’Donnell’s and Michael Salvatori’s original vision with grace and style,” said Kristofor Mellroth, Senior Audio Director to Microsoft Studios. “This wasn’t just a simple remaster, it was a completely new orchestration and recording using renowned talent and top live players.”
Sounds like this ultimate love letter was crafted with a lot of devotion. With such huge talents working on the project alongside meticulous transcription, there’s no doubt that 343 Industries is working hard to make Combat Evolved the best it can be, right down to the musical details.
Look for Halo: Combat Evolved on November 15th.
