“We asked for 20,000 players to get the Stream Crosser achievement Sunday night,” said the L4D dev team in a blog post. “You started playing at 10am Wednesday morning. Four and half hours later you surpassed the 20,000 target.”
What did you expect Valve? We love you, and we love slaying zombies with every conceivable weapon we can get our hands on. In a call for help last week, the L4D Devs said they wanted people to play the new Cold Stream maps on Steam to test out bugs. We responded in force and smashed the original goal of 20,000 players. The final tally reached over 60,000 players having gained the achievement 24 hours after the initial query on a bright and sunny Thursday morning.
As a reward, Valve will be working harder to make DLC available sooner. “Since you hit your mark, this means we are going to unlock Dead Air early,” said the devs. “We are going to try and release it as early as possible but will release it on July 22nd the latest.”
Getting the re-worked No Mercy treatment, Dead Air will now be featuring the special infected from Left 4 Dead 2 as well as melee weapons galore. Thanks to the massive participation of the community, the final release dates for the full Cold Stream DLC pack just got a lot closer as well.
Fear not Xbox players, for we are still not being alienated. Once testing and changes are completed, Valve will begin the process of getting the DLC pack to Xbox Live. “[Once the changes are completed], we will go into the certification process on the Xbox 360 and then release,” said the blog post. “What date is that? Hard to say but with your help it just got closer.”
So thanks to everyone who made the Cold Stream pack come closer to fruition, because you can never have too many maps to kill zombies on.
