It’s every true Castlevania fan’s dream. Simon Belmont, the patriarch of the whole entire Belmont clan in the Castlevania mythos, began his journey to defeat Dracula and his little cronies back in 1986. Since Konami started its foray into next-gen consoles, many of us eagerly awaited news if Simon would be resurrected in the third dimension.
Sadly, that wouldn’t be the case, and we won’t even try to remember the atrocity called Castlevania: JUDGEMENT.
With Leon Belmont in Lament of Innocence, and Trevor Belmont in Curse of Darkness on the PlayStation 2, the next Belmont we would see in the third dimension is Gabriel in Lords of Shadow.
However, Lords of Shadow‘s developing studio Mercury Steam released a never-before-seen beta test that featured their version of Simon Belmont earlier today. Sporting duds that would probably make Ezio jealous, the short demo reel gave a small glimpse into what could have been. The video can be accessed here on Konami’s Facebook page.
We do hope that Mercury Steam keeps this design and perhaps we might see a future Castlevania title that brings our favorite Belmont back to life. Afterall, Dracula isn’t going to kill himself.
