Left 4 Film: Fan-made Films Continue to Ease the Half-Life Wait

Valve has created many a beloved video game series, but none has had fans more in an uproar than Half-Life. Since the release of Half-Life 2: Episode 2 in 2007 on The Orange Box, many players have been waiting on edge for the conclusion in the gripping series. Will we finally send the Combine back to where they belong? Will we ever find out who G-Man is? Will we ever get our hands on a suit like Gordon Freeman’s?

Only time will tell. Valve has kept very quiet about the conclusion of Half-Life, but have continuously reminded us that they’re not done with the ground-breaking games just yet. Call it what you will, but the periodic promises that Freeman hasn’t been forgotten is enough to get some of us angry. At the very least we know that he hasn’t been abandoned to the cutting room floor.

In the meantime, fans have taken the matter into their own hands. Beginning with a demand for Left 4 Dead films, movie-making enthusiasts and hardcore fans of Half-Life have made their own small screen versions of City 17 and the battle against the Combine. Watching these shorts makes the agonizing wait feel a little better.

The first, an offering from the Purchase Brothers, was released in 2009. Entitled “Escape from City 17,” the short film is presented in two parts. While the second part is still under production, it gives us a well-thought out fan interpretation of the events in Half-Life 2: Episode 1. Check it out:

The latest fan movie, entitled “Singularity Collapse,” has the entirety of the Half-Life fanbase (and probably most of the internet) a flutter. Check it out:

While it’s not the same as a real Episode 3 release, at least it’s making the wait feel a little less painful.

But we really hope Valve is paying attention.
