Cliffy B says if Gears 3 Does Well, There’s Going to be More

19 Jul, 2011

“It’s just business 101,” said Cliff Bleszinski, Epic Games’ Design Director. In an interview with Rip Ten, the Gears maestro said that it’s just common sense to keep on going with the world of Sera if Gears 3 performs well this coming September. Many of us will see it as the end of a trilogy, but there’s going to be more coming if fans see it fit.

With the original Gears of War and its sequel Gears of War 2 selling close to 6 million copies (and still counting), Cliffy B said that there’s always “the Peter Jackson route” if Gears 3 sells astronomical numbers. He’s referring to the recent filming of prequel The Hobbit after the blockbuster success The Lord of the Rings Trilogy enjoyed from 2000 until 2003.

How this would translate into the universe of Gears of War will be a challenging one. “I mean, the key is figuring out what’s appropriate,” said Bleszinski. “What makes sense for this connected world that we’re moving into? So, that remains to be seen. That’s the million dollar question…”

Considering how mindful Cliffy B is of his Gears universe, we trust the man to make the right calls.

Call your brothers to arms and save humanity in Gears of War 3 on September 20th on Xbox 360.
