If you thought Valve was about to abandon our favorite zombie-killing title, then think again. A few weeks ago, Valve reached out to the Steam community for a little help testing Cold Stream, an upcoming DLC pack for both PC and Xbox players. When the initial benchmark of 20,000 players to win the “Stream Crosser” achievement was reached (and eventually crushed by a total 60,000 some players), Valve promised that it would bring out the Dead Air revamp a little early for a tasting.
A new blog post by the dev team a few hours ago announced that a beta version of Dead Air will be released today on Steam only. Guess we’ll have to wait a little longer, Xbox bretheren. Valve also said that the entire Cold Stream DLC will be available to Xbox players “later this summer.” That can mean anywhere between tomorrow until the end of September. It’s not that far away in the greater scale of things, but impatient Xbox fans are starting to shuffle their feet and grumble a little.
Along with the addition of Left 4 Dead 2‘s melee weaponry and special infected, Valve has said that some tweaks were made to the Dead Air maps. “…we have made some changes to the 4th and 5th maps of the campaign,” read the blog post. “Give them a few play throughs and let us know what you think. Make sure to try some different strategies – especially in the finale.”
In closing the blog post, Valve has also left a few intriguing comments, stating, “Cold Stream and the rest of the Left 4 Dead 1 maps will be out later this summer as part of the Cold Stream DLC.” Does this mean we’ll be seeing Death Toll and Blood Harvest remade as well? There’s no telling until the full pack is released. Waiting seems to be the only cure, and not one bullet at a time.
