THQ pulls the plug on Red Faction franchise

THQ pulls the plug on Red Faction franchise

Following the poor sales of the most recent addition to the franchise, Armageddon; THQ have decided that it was time to pull the plug on the Red Faction franchise. Though it received reasonable reviews from critics, Armageddon did poorly in the actual market.

The series has been running for a decade. Though originally an FPS, Red Faction took a 3rd person turn with Guerilla. Perhaps THQ hoped this would breathe fresh life back into the series, though it seems have been a novelty for gamers at most.

It’s kinda sad when something like this happens to a franchise that has become so recognisable in video games as a whole. Red Faction pioneered destructible environments and I have fond memories of fragging my friends through walls & barricades in Red Faction II’s multiplayer.

Melancholy aside, I wouldn’t be surprised if this supposedly dead series get’s a reboot in a few years.

  1. Gutting news. :( RF:A’s real-time destruction/rebuild mechanics kicked ass. What a waste. :(
