For months now, JoWooD has been teetering on the precipice of insolvency, due to poor sales and bad contracts. Fans of several of the JoWooD franchises have lamented that support had dried up and planned expansion packs for titles had gone into the ether, due to a lack of financial reserves.
Fans can now let out a sigh of relief as Nordic Games has come in to purchase both JoWooD and its sister company, The Adventure Company and will start working on support for old products as well as revisiting several titles from its vast catalog. Nordic Games cites value in franchises like Painkiller, The Guild, ArcaniA, Panzer Elite, Safecracker and Neighbors From Hell for future expansion and new products. Really? Neighbors From Hell? Talk about pulling out an obscure title reference from the vault. I had not thought about that title since five minutes after it was release oh so many years ago.
Snarkiness aside, I am glad that people will get to keep their jobs, and while JoWooD have made some good and bad titles, it would have been a shame for some of these titles to have been lost to another developer that did not have the proper vision.
