PAX Prime 2011: Square-Enix Unveils Quantum Conundrum

25 Aug, 2011

Just a day left before the biggest fan-geared convention hits Seattle, and Square-Enix is starting it all off by announcing Quantum Conundrum. While they promised an official unveiling at PAX Saturday night, it looks like they were simply too eager to tell all about their newest game.

Developed by Dark Void studio Airtight Games and helmed by co-creator of Portal Kim Swift, Quantum Conundrum looks promising as a quirky arcade title. It will be made available for download on Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and PC in early 2012.

In Quantum Conundrum, you play a kid that’s been left alone in your uncle’s house, which also is a super secret laboratory. Of course, he’s gone missing, so now it’s your job to find your way through the house, room after room of puzzles, and locate your uncle.

The “Quantum” part of the title comes from your ability to switch between different “dimensions,” which alter a room’s physics that will let you move along. For example, one of the earliest dimensions revealed is a “fluffy” dimension, which negates object gravity and makes objects in the room lighter. This lets your character move the objects around. There’s also the obligatory “slow-motion” dimension which, judging by the title, will give you Matrix powers.

Square-Enix has said there is about 6 hours of gameplay available during one play through of the game.
