F1 2011 Dev Diary: Co-op Championship First Look

8 Sep, 2011

Codemasters have released the third in their series of developer diaries, offering gamers a first look at the much-anticipated co-op championship mode. Available both online and offline via split screen, this game mode takes the sport to a whole new personal level.

Chief Game Designer of F1 2011, Stephen Hood, reckons that’s the case as well. “Now when I look across the garage and see my team mate in there, I am not comparing myself against an AI team mate, I’m comparing myself against someone that I know personally. I’m interested in who’s got the most points, who’s out-qualified me. It’s about trying to fight to be the leader of a team. It makes for a completely different experience, playing with a friend. It’s now a personal game mode.”

F1 2011 boasts a whole horde of new features, including split screen, full grid multiplayer races and support of up to 16 online racers at any time. Our preview of the game showcases all these changes, as well as the not-so-obvious changes to the game engine, physics and technical data.
