While Max Payne has travelled down some dark roads in his first two adventures, the trip to get his third adventure to release has been a far more arduous journey. Seemingly delayed since 2009, Rockstar has now committed to a month and year for Max Payne 3. Yes, it is not an exact date, but this is far more solid that the previous release windows we had of “Holiday 2010″ or “Summer 2011″.
In this third adventure, Max Payne has left the New York City skyline behind, to work for a private security firm in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Max is tasked with protecting a wealthy executive’s family from harm. Those in his custody have been targeted by powerful gangs, and he must save them and himself, all the while, dealing with his own internal demons.
Max Payne 3 will also add multiplayer for the first time in a Max Payne title. I can see this working, but it does feel a little sacrilegious for a franchise that has been built around consistantly strong narratives and fast paced action. I hope it will work out for the best, but I am skeptical at this time until I get a chance to see it in action.
Look for Max Payne 3 sometime in March 2012 for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 from Rockstar Games.
