With Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City slated for release sometime soon, Capcom made a splash today with a viral campaign. In an intriguing PR message, a Twitter account called Inserted Evil was revealed to be a man in need. It’s not apparent at first, but he needs an army to help uncover the truth behind the evils and the crimes committed by the Umbrella Corporation. That’s where we come in.
The Twitter account also linked to Inserted Evil.com, a website where a brief video message (of course, the person in need of assistance is backlit, so you can’t see who it is) plays, urging visitors to join the fight against Umbrella. “This is the battle for truth,” says the person in question. “Biomedical research is a good thing, but bioweapons research involving trials, testing, and selling to the highest bidder is not.
“How do I know? I can’t say here. Only know that I lost someone very dear to me, thanks to Umbrella.”
Further exploration of the website leaves us with clues that the mysterious man left behind, and they’re intended to point fingers at Umbrella. Each clue is followed with a video and a prompt to enter an unlocking code. Doesn’t look like anyone has solved it yet. Perhaps you’ll be the first?
An interesting campaign from Capcom to push their newest Resident Evil title out there. In Raccoon City, players will spend time as Umbrella operatives sent in to the doomed city to cover up Umbrella’s debacle with the zombie outbreak. Of course, during all the action, players will also get the chance to kill one of ResiEvil‘s most iconic protagonists — Leon Kennedy.
Think you’ve got the brains and time to solve Capcom’s puzzles? Head on over to Inserted Evil to try your hand at the clues.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is slated for release later this year on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
