That’s the latest news coming out of the office of the big cheese Tetsuya Nomura himself. Pulling yet another no-show at this year’s TGS, some of us are beginning to wonder if this is Japan’s answer to Duke Nukem Forever. According to an interview with Famitsu magazine, Nomura assured gamers that Versus XIII is going to be a Final Fantasy like no other we’ve ever seen.
After completing a walkthrough of the world map and checking the side quests, dungeons, and detailed towns, Nomura was impressed with the work that has been done on Versus XIII. He also revealed that the game will be using a next-gen engine called Luminous for lighting purposes.
Early trailers of Versus XIII place a heavy emphasis on dark versus light, and Nomura explains that this is the reasoning behind using such a powerful engine to focus only on lighting. The aim of Versus XIII is photo-realism — thus, the use of Luminous.
Sorry Xbox fans, Versus XIII will remain a PlayStation 3 exclusive.
No date has been placed on the arrival of Final Fantasy Versus XIII. As of July, Nomura even admitted that Versus XIII hasn’t entered full production yet. Frustrated? Fans are, because this is the fifth year of no news. Given how impressive Square Enix keeps pushing Versus XIII to be, it better deliver the goods come launch day.
