Okay, so I will be the first to admit that I have done my fair share of mocking the Cabela hunting titles that can commonly be found at your local Walmart. I look at them as being somewhat cheaply made and never having much appeal to myself. I don’t enjoy camping, and I have no patience for sitting in a hide for several hours, waiting for a buck so I can put it down with a bullet.
But watching the latest trailer for this new Cabela’s Survival: Shadows of Katmai, I actually found myself wanting to try out this new game. It actually looks polished and goes beyond the simple idea of hunting. Instead you have crashed in the mountain region of Katmai, where you have to forage to live through a severe cold front that is coming through the area. Yes, there is still a hunting component, but you will also be flying a plane, riding on a dogsled, building shelter and pretty much doing whatever possible to get off the mountain alive.
Check out the new screens and trailer for Cabela’s Survival: Shadows of Katmai below. Look for the title to hit shelves with the Top Shot Elite peripheral for PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii on November 1st, 2011 from Activision.
