Battlefield 3 $1,600,000 Worldwide Tournament

EA and DICE, partnered with Virgin Gaming, are announcing a huge tournament for Battlefield 3. With $1,600,000 in cash and prizes, this marks the biggest console tournament, ever. The details are all there on Virgin Gaming’s website.

With Call of Duty being a regular entry in the MLG Pro Circuit, it makes sense that EA would want to make a push for Battlefield 3 to be featured as prominently as Call of Duty. It was announced a few months ago that MLG would be adding Battlefield 3 to its Gamebattles ladder, but having a main stage event for Battlefield 3 would be a huge step, indeed, for Battlefield 3 as an eSport.

Having played a bit of the Battlefield 3 alpha on PC, I’m a bit skeptical about its viability as a spectator-friendly game. Maybe EA doesn’t care about getting Battlefield into MLG, but with so much marketing spent on trying to compete with Call of Duty, getting into MLG Pro Circuit would definitely be a plus.
