Dark Souls Dominates Japanese Charts During Launch Weekend

29 Sep, 2011

While From Software’s previous offering of Demon’s Souls garnered little attention, this time around they’ve got more people thinking about them. Dark Souls arrived on the scene in Japan last weekend, and it left a pretty big impression.

For the week ending September 25th, NeoGAF reported via Media Create that Dark Souls sold almost 280,000 in its debut week. Not bad for a game that’s supposed to kill you every three minutes, but hardcore RPG lovers will certainly have their hands full. That is, until a little certain title drops in the middle of November.

Surprisingly, Dark Souls pushed heavy-hitting favorite ICO & Shadows of the Colossus HD Collection down to second place. If the numbers are looking that strong for Japan’s releases, we’re wondering how it would look in the States.

The remainder of Japan’s sales charts were dominated by new release titles, including Gears of War 3, Monster Hunter Freedom 3, and Shadow of the Colossus by its lonesome.
