Nintendo put out some new information for Zelda fans, detailing the Faron Woods in Legend of Zenda: Skyward Sword. The Faron Woods will be one of the many places that you will visit in the game, and it presents Link with several new mechanics to try out. Link will use his sword like a dowsing rod, where you will have visual and audio feedback to point you in the correct direction of the Skyward Temple in the forest. The dowsing mechanic feeds off of the aura that Princess Zelda projects from the temple, giving it a grounded basis for the story. The dowsing will also allow Link to uncover new items and treasures.
You will also meet the Kikwis, fuzzy creatures that live in the Faron Woods. Link can find these magical creatures using the dowsing mechanics as well, who will help him search for Zelda. Funny point, but the Kikwis are supposed to resemble a Kiwi fruit, so take that as you will.
Link will also gain access to his first new weapon in the woods, a slingshot which can be used by aiming and a target and then pressing a button to launch a stone. While the weapon is not all that powerful, it is useful for stunning enemies, allowing you to setup bigger attacks with yoru sword.
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is set for release on November 20th, 2011 for the Nintendo Wii. It will come packaged for a limited time with a 25th Anniversary soundtrack and is also available in a limited edition bundle with a gold colored Wii Remote Plus Controller.
