Bad Company Isn’t Dead Yet; “Be Patient,” Says DICE

Missing the days of dry humor amidst explosions on the battlefield? We’re not talking about Marcus Fenix jawing off about the latest wave of glowies invading the fields of Sera. We’re talking about Preston Marlowe and his…er, bad company of soldiers. Perhaps the days are numbered, as DICE revealed that the Bad Company series isn’t dead yet.

In an interview with The Guardian, Battlefield producer Patrick Liu spoke mostly about the upcoming release of Battlefield 3 — but also answered a little tidbit about the absence of Bad Company. “Well, we haven’t killed Bad Company!” answered Liu when asked about the state of the series’ spin-off. “But we can only make so many games. Be patient — there might be something else coming up…”

First released in 2008, Battlefield: Bad Company stormed onto the scene with its destructive environments that rendered any form of cover nearly moot, and was also the first story-driven title in the Battlefield series. It was enough to win many FPS fans’ hearts. Last March, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 arrived and brought with it all the trappings of what the first game had and more.

With Battlefield 3‘s launch just around the corner, fans of the genre and series are already occupied, leaving little room for thought on Bad Company. However, said Liu, DICE has absolutely no intention of turning Battlefield into an annual title. “We always have a couple projects going on — some of them die, but some are more fruitful,” said Liu. “We don’t have any plans to make Battlefield an annual title — we want to make it ourselves we don’t want anyone else doing it. And no studio can make an annual franchise by themselves — well, the sports titles can but they’re a very different breed.”

We won’t go into just how different of a breed these sports titles are. Rest assured, shooters, “B” Company will come around once more.

Battlefield 3 is set to release for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 25th in the United States, and October 28th in Europe.
