GDC Online is still going full-swing, and Sony’s Chris Norden had some news to share with excited PS Vita fans. Norden, a senior staff developer and support engineer, informed devs that any retail game released for Sony’s newest portable system will also be downloadable from the PSN Store on launch day. No more waiting for a few days, weeks, or even months.
“PSN is supported from day one, right out of the box at launch,” said Norden. For the more tech-savvy, Norden noted that games don’t have to be submitted to Sony in different file formats for a PSN download — all games can be submitted as one format for release. How’s that for making lives easier?
When asked about free-to-play, Norden said that yes, the Vita will support such a model: “You are free to explore whatever business model you want. You’ll have to talk to your account manager and say, ‘Here’s my idea, and here’s what I wanna do,’ but yes, you’re allowed to do that.”
Sounds like the PS Vita will be one delightful little mobile platform upon release. Will you be picking one up on launch day?
