Ubisoft to Open Studio in Abu Dhabi

26 Oct, 2011

With an international presence that includes China, Canada, and Romania, Ubisoft looks to expand once more. This time, they’re aiming to open an office in Abu Dhabi, the largest city and also the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

“This marks the first time a major games publisher has established a direct presence in the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC),” read the press release from Ubisoft.

The new location is slated to open its doors this year in December, and will initially work in collaboration with other Ubisoft studios. Eventually, its goal is to create original titles for local and international audiences. Yannick Theler, a Ubisoft vet of 10 years, and was most recently the HR director of Ubisoft Shanghai, will be the manager of the new studio.

Commenting on Abu Dhabi as the location for the new office, Ubisoft stated that Abu Dhabi’s technologically inclined infrastructure and its devotion to media and the entertainment industry were the deciding factors. “Abu Dhabi’s excellent technological infrastructure and quality training institutions and its long-term commitment to create a thriving regional media and entertainment industry were key factors in the decision for Ubisoft to establish a new studio in the Middle East,” said Ubisoft.
