With the outing of the latest dismal financial reports, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata announced that there’s going to be a lot of change on the horizon, but it’s starting next year. With the 3DS falling behind on sales and Nintendo losing millions upon millions, there’s little faith in the 3D mobile system and the upcoming Wii U consoles.
Game titles that caught attention of those not game-savvy have carried Nintendo’s DS system very far, and Iwata said that next year is the year that the 3DS will see these kinds of games. “Aiming for the next fiscal year, we are also working on new genres of software that may attract people who are not particularly interested in video games,” said Iwata during a financial briefing yesterday.
Iwata also said that preparations are in place for collaboration between Nintendo and third-party publishers to ensure that the 3DS will always have something new to release. While details are lacking in what kinds of games or titles will be available, Nintendo seems confident that this will boost sales and change the 3DS into a success story, as opposed to a sob story.
