Danish developer Playdead’s debut title, LIMBO, took the downloadable gaming world by storm back in 2010. With its monochrome art style, morbid demises, and dangerous world, the game gave puzzle platform fans much to chatter about. The bizarre settings and the puzzles certainly encouraged players to think outside of the box, but the title’s notable weirdness also generated a lot of discussion.
Playdead founder Dino Patti has now said that the studio’s next game, known simply as “project two,” will be even weirder than LIMBO. How can you possibly do that? “The next project is more crazy than Limbo, if you say that’s crazy,” said Patti in an interview with Eurogamer. “It’s more weird in many ways.
“I think it looks crazy good. I’m really proud of it already. I know the art is not fully there yet, but for me it’s the perfect project two for our company, because it’s similar in many ways, but so different.”
Patti refused to give any more details about the game, saying that the reason why is because he doesn’t like it when gamers have to wait from announcement until release. Well, we’re just itching to know what’s the game about, so isn’t that the same thing? “We just want the team to be happy about it,” said Patti. “Also, our production time is long, so we don’t want to tire people out. I hate when the big publishers show something one or two years before the launch.”
However, Patti did let slip a slight few details. The game is currently a single-player experience, and will probably be a download only game. It will also be in color.
While fans of Playdead’s style will want more soon, Patti has said that the studio hasn’t decided on a name for the game yet. They haven’t even decided on launch platforms. One thing is for sure: they want a bigger audience than what Limbo gave them. “Hopefully we’ll do bigger distribution next time,” said Patti of Limbo‘s release. “I want more people to play the game. Limbo sold really well, but if we’d done a multiplatform launch the first time it would be even bigger.”
