Alleged Cheating and Rule-Bending Mar WCG LoL Tourney
The LoL community is up in arms about what some internet denizens feel is sketchy decision-making from the WCG and Riot Games staff. Apparently at the WCG League of Legends tournament, when a player was found to be competing on two teams (one in the US bracket, and another in the Canadian bracket) he was disqualified per the rules. However, the decision was made that while being disqualified from the Canadian team, he would still be allowed to play for the US team.
Then later, when Team Chicks Dig Elo came up through the losers’ bracket to face Team Dignitas, Team CDE beat Dignitas two games to one. Unfortunately, WCG stepped in and informed them they must play best of three sets instead of best of three games, which Dignitas went on to win two sets to one.
The confusion comes from WCG trying to be consistent between the Canadian and US finals, but erroneously believing (as Gamespy did) that the Canadian finals was best of three sets, when in fact, according to many sources, they played best of three GAMES for the Canadian finals. So, to be consistent, many believe CDE should have won the US finals.
Both WCG and Riot Games have issued statements about the tournament, now, but don’t seem particularly helpful other than, “We didn’t communicate well.” Gee, ya think?
