Aonuma Hints at New Zelda Title for 3DS

5 Nov, 2011

With Skyward Sword due out fairly soon on the Wii, news of a new Zelda title for the struggling mobile platform may be a welcome announcement for Nintendo. There’s little faith in the upcoming Wii U, and there’s even less certainty in the future of the 3DS, despite Nintendo’s push to have new and engaging games for the 3DS.

In an interview with Portuguese news site MyGames, Zelda Producer Eiji Aonuma said that the new title for the 3DS is a completely new game. Successes with the Ocarina of Time 3D remake all pointed towards Majora’s Mask or a remake of previous Zelda titles, but a brand new adventure for Link is just as welcome.

Aonuma has said that the new Zelda game will of course have concepts that have been a staple in the series. You really can’t have Link without a boomerang or a bow and arrow, right?

Fans of Majora’s shouldn’t be disappointed though. Aonuma has said that he’s discussed the possibility of doing a remake of Majora’s Mask with creator Shigeru Miyamoto. Both are “seriously considering” the possibility, but felt it inappropriate to release another remake so soon after Ocarina of Time.

Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword releases on November 20th on the Nintendo Wii.
