Design Director of Downpour Leaves Vatra Games

5 Nov, 2011

Brian Gomez, the Design Director for Silent Hill: Downpour, announced his departure from developing studio Vatra Games effective Halloween Day.

The reason is simple. Gomez said that he missed his family, and they missed him too. In between Los Angeles, where his family resides, and Brno in the Czech Republic, Gomez said that his work meant long periods of time away from his loved ones.

Since the announcement of Downpour‘s delay into 2012, Gomez said he simply couldn’t do it anymore. “When it was announced that Downpour was being delayed to 2012, my family and I came to the decision that I couldn’t keep making the commute between Los Angeles and Brno for another 4 to 6 months,” said Gomez in an interview with The Silent Hill Historical Society. “Downpour is so close to completion, there’s not a lot more that I can personally do for the project that Devin, Tomm, and Marek Berka cannot handle on their own. I gave my notice a few weeks ago, setting Halloween as my last day.”

Gomez has said that in the future, he will very much be working in the survival horror genre, stating that there were lots of ideas he wanted to implement in Downpour, but were ultimately shot down by Konami. “…you can rest assured that some of the projects I’m looking at are survival horror related,” said Gomez. “There’s a lot of things I still want to do in this genre that Konami simply didn’t let me do.”

Silent Hill: Downpour is due out in March 2012.
