Modern Warfare 3 the Biggest Launch of All Time. Of All Time! Just Sayin’

We knew that Activision’s Modern Warfare 3 was going to be huge, and they kept telling us that it really was. Gamers won’t believe it until we see the cold hard numbers, and Activision delivered the goods today.

According to the publishing house, more than 6.5 million units sold in both North America and the UK within the first 24 hours of its release. This amounts to more than $400 million. The figures for other regions haven’t even been released yet.

With this numbers, it means that Modern Warfare 3 is the biggest launch title of the Call of Duty series. Black Ops sold a lot too, but only reached $360 million. Modern Warfare 2 saw slightly less as well, with a sell-through of $310 million.

CEO Bobby Kotick said that this is “the biggest entertainment launch of all time in any medium.” “…we achieved this record with sales from only two territories,” he said.
