When Activision released Modern Warfare 2, promises were made that there would be online game stats available similar to what Bungie has done with the Halo series. Well, that never really materialized, and the Modern Warfare 2 leaderboard quickly became overrun with hackers and boosters. Contrast that with the Gears of War leaderboards, and it’s obvious how much difference it makes to have a company that actually cares about their games and customers after launch.
With Modern Warfare 2012, Activision continues the trend of not fully supporting its post-launch community with a recent tweet from the Call of Duty Elite twitter account called into question whether the Elite service would be available at all. According to the now deleted tweet, Activision would not guarantee anything regarding availability of Elite on PC.
That statement has since been recanted and Activision has reaffirmed their goal to bring Elite to the PC for free, however no timetable is given. The skeleton in Activision’s closet is that they have a terrible history of supporting their communities, and I will not be surprised at all if Elite never comes to the PC. I guess Call of Duty PC players will have to wait for Modern Warfare 2013.
