The future of Metal Gear Solid seems to be on shaky ground, with fans still divided about the recent unveiling of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. However, Hideo Kojima is pressing on, already working on a new game that delves into a world that fans don’t normally associate his work with.
In a recent interview with CNN, Kojima said that the game he’s working on has “a very wide entrance, a very open entrance.”
“Rather than making something very cinematic, [I plan to] make something very free,” he said.
For now, not a lot is known about the game, but we do know that it’s code named “Project Ogre,” and that it’s running on Kojima Productions’ newest engine Fox Engine. The only things he’s saying about the newest game is that it would support transfarring, be across multiple platforms, and that it would be designed with a global audience in mind, and not just a Japanese audience.
Kojima further explained that the game will be following the open-world formula that Skyrim seems to have made all the rage these days. He also boasted that the game will be close to 100 hours long, and maybe even longer, as players will be given plenty of time (and things to do) that will encourage exploration.
A single screenshot, posted by Kojima on his Twitter feed, served as a demonstration of what the Fox Engine can do and also hints at an arid setting for the upcoming game.
