The original Devil May Cry is arguably one of best hack and slash games of the PlayStation 2 era. Resident Evil 2 has been lauded as a benchmark in the long-standing series. While Okami was a commercial throw-away, the game itself was a beautiful and wonderful game. What do they all have in common?
Hideki Kamiya. The director to 2009′s amazingly entertaining (and leggy protagonist) Bayonetta has since taken a backseat driver role in recent titles like Vanquish, the upcoming Anarchy Reigns, and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. However, in an interview with 4Gamer, Kamiya said that he’s ready to start designing again. According to Andriasang‘s translation of the interview, Kamiya also said he’s ready to “announce a new game and make a comeback on the game scene.”
We’d like that. While plot may not be his strong suit, Kamiya has proven with his impressive resume that he knows how to design a game that plays well and is entertaining. With a staff that has a number of ex-Capcom employees after Clover Studios closed, you can be sure that this team definitely knows their stuff. While Platinum is currently working with both Konami and Kojima Productions on Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, producer Atsushi Inaba said that he expects this upcoming year to be “the ultimate year for Platinum Games.”
