Kenji Saito to Direct Metal Gear Rising

Kenji Saito to Direct Metal Gear Rising

20 Jan, 2012

Everyone said that it was going to be Hideki Kamiya, the famed mastermind behind the original Devil May Cry, Resident Evil 2, and Bayonetta. No, he said, continually denying it on Twitter. It’s not him, it’s somebody else.

An interview in this week’s Famitsu, Japan’s top video game magazine, confirmed that Metal Gear Rising‘s director is Kenji Saito, the main programmer for Bayonetta.

In a roundtable discussion with Hideo Kojima, Platinum Games’ CEO Tatsuya Minami, and producer Atsushi Inaba, Inaba reiterated that Hideki Kamiya has no involvement with the project. He then pointed out that Saito has worked with Kamiya on several projects in the past, dating all the way back to when Viewtiful Joe was first released in 2003.

Raiden certainly doesn’t have all the leggy-ness of Bayonetta (thank goodness), but he’s still sporting some pretty powerful moves.

No release date has been discussed for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance as of yet.
