The Scythe and the Horse: Welcome Death with Open Arms in Darksiders II

The Scythe and the Horse: Welcome Death with Open Arms in Darksiders II

25 Jan, 2012

In the beginning, there were Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The White, Red, Black, and Pale Riders meant serious business, and anytime you saw them, you can expect there’s going to be some serious hell to pay. That is, if you’re around long enough to see the end.

There’s serious business going on in the world of Darksiders, but it’s not as clean cut as you would think. For gamers who were attentive and played Vigil Games’ original Darksiders released in 2010, they were first introduced to War, the horseman that was set up for failure in his mission to restore order on Earth. There was no breaking of the Seventh Seal, and there was no Apocalypse.

Guess War didn’t get the memo on that one.

The plot of the original Darksiders followed War and his quest to find out who was it that summoned him prematurely. However, in Darksiders II, we don’t get to play as War again. Instead, we’re assuming the role of his brother Death, who is on a personal mission to clear War’s name and to prove that he didn’t do anything wrong. War was just doing his job after all, and he was being damn fine at it.

In the latest trailer from THQ and Vigil Games, we’re given a visual dossier on the Pale Rider, that visitor that many of us would admit we’re scared of seeing as the last of our lives ebb away. Hate to break it to you, but you’re going to have to see him eventually.

Darksiders II is coming to the Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3 this summer. No specific release date has been discussed at this time.
