In Which the Lead Gameplay Programmer of Enslaved is Hired by Splash Damage

1 Feb, 2012

The studio responsible for bringing us Brink is starting work on several new titles. We won’t know if they’ll be delivering the goods, but they’ve already started bringing in the big guns. They’ve now asked for the services of Ninja Theory’s lead gameplay programmer, Mark Fascia to fulfill the role of technical director, who’ll be overseeing all the engineering teams. Not familiar with the name? Then perhaps you’ve heard of one of his creations: Enslaved: Odyssey to the West.

Splash Damage isn’t kidding around, as they’ve also hired Griff Jenkins, the former senior development director of FIFA.

“We’re hugely impressed by Marc’s combination of insane technical ability and project management skills,” said Paul Wedgwood, Splash Damage’s big boss, in a statement. “In particular its Marc’s obsession with fun gameplay and his personable nature that makes him the perfect person to lead our army of awesome programmers.”

Earlier in the month, Wedgwood had said that 2012 would be a big year for the FPS-centric studio. “We’ll be revealing new titles – both on platforms we’ve previously visited (including the PC and the world’s leading consoles), as well as exploring spaces completely new to us,” he said.

“Finally, we’ve got some special things planned to take full advantage of the changes our industry is experiencing. This is a hugely exciting time for everyone here at the studio and we can’t wait to tell you about all the cool things we’ve got in store for you this year.”

“I’m really happy to be trusted with this incredible responsibility at Splash Damage,” said Fascia on his new capacity. “We’re working on some great things, and managing such a big and talented programming team, across multiple varied and challenging projects, is a wonderful opportunity. I love multiplayer and Splash Damage suits my passion perfectly.”
