Lightning Can Now Fight Along Side you with New Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC

8 Feb, 2012

So you get home with your copy of Final Fantasy XIII-2, and you start to make your way through the huge storyline, but you start to notice a bit of a problem. You remember that Lightning is featured on the box, and yet, you never actually get a chance to play as her through the game. Well, that is because Lightning is a DLC unlockable character apparently.

Yes, the first batch of DLC is now out for Final Fantasy XIII-2, and it is a new challenge pack where you fight both Lightning and her superior officer, Amodar. If you defeat both of these characters in battle, you then get the ability to add them to your party for the rest of the game.

Maybe it is just me, but does anyone else feel that this is a little underhanded? I mean, if you put Lightning all over the box and in every trailer, you would think she is an unlockable character, not a character you have to essentially purchase to unlock. Of course, I have not finished the entire game as of yet, but from what I have read, Lightning is not unlockable unless you have this DLC.

Guess it is no worse than character costumes that are on the disc for some games, but this seems to take it a step further, when a character is prominently featured in the advertising campaign, but is never playable in the actual game until you drop a few bucks.

Anyway, check out some screens of both Amodar and Lightning below. Final Fantasy XIII-2 is now out for Xbox 360 and PS3 from Square Enix.

How frustrating, especially as an owner of the premium edition – how about all the content you’re supposed to give me in exchange for the tee SqEnix?
