The art of the classic graphical adventure game seems to have been lost over time, with only a scant few developers in Europe really making a go of it in this genre. While not a knock on those developers, the legends of the genre, people like Roberta Williams, Ron Gilbert or Tim Schafer have never come back to the genre that made them famous.
But what if this was possible. Who wouldn’t like to see an old school, poitn and click graphical adventure game from one of these industry luminaries. Apparently, a lot of people would, as fans answered in droves to a recent Kickstarter project set up by Tim Schafer. He set up a Kickstarer project that asked for $400,000 from fans. Of this, $300,000 would go towards developing the game and another $100,000 would go to filming the entire process from start to finish for the fans to watch.
The surprise is not the idea of using Kickstarter for something like this, but the response that the idea got from the fans as over $700,000 was donated to the project in one day. Yes, they almost doubled what they were looking for in the original Kickstarter promotion in 24 hours. So it looks like the fans that want a Tim Schafer led point and click adventure game will get that due to the support from the fan community.
Check out the pitch video below from Tim Schafer himself. And if you are interested in chipping in a few bucks, head over to the Kickstarter page and make a donation. There are prizes for those donating money, including a dinner with Tim for only $50,000.
