Snake Eater 3D Demo is Free!

If you’ve got yourself a 3DS then you are one lucky son of a gun this week. Get yourself over to the Nintendo eShop and pick up a free demo of Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater. There’s a lot of incarnations of this game around right now, as the HD versions recently launched, but if you’ve only got yourself a 3DS then this is your chance to get into one of the greatest game franchises around. As for all you stalwart fans of the series why would you pick this up? You’ve already played the standard version, the Subsistence over the shoulder version, and the HD version? What’s new here? Well, to be honest it’s just in 3D. If the 3DS still holds wonder for you then you’ll enjoy crawling through grass for hours on end in all its dimensional glory.

The demo is a great thing for fans, it gives newbies a chance to pick it up, and if you’ve played them all before then you don’t have to shell out for a whole new game you already own just to see what it’s like in 3D. My advice: pick up the demo and make your judgements there and then. If you really desperately need to see the full game in 3D then knock yourself out, but if some grass and an alligator in your face is enough then you’ve lost nothing by giving it a go.

Some of you out there might be bemoaning Kojima’s milking of this series, and that’s perfectly understandable. But, if like me, you’re border line obsessive about MGS then all these variations are sweet memories of time gone by. Plus it’s not all stuff we’ve played before. I mean the likelihood of people playing the original MSX versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 is low, so their inclusion in the HD collection was very welcome. You’ll probably only have played them if you own a Subsistence copy of MGS3, and we all know how unfairly rare they are. So kick out the cynicism and get yourself some free 3D stealth perfection.
