Robot Entertainment has announced the impending arrival of a third army for the brilliantly addictive iOS game Hero Academy. And they shall be known as… Dwarves.
Available for an undisclosed price on February 22, the Dwarves complete the usual fantasy hero triad of humans-elves-dwarves. Hero Academy, a free download, comes with the human Council army for free. The Dark Elf army is a $1.99 in-app purchase.
The Dwarves follow the game’s established pattern of classes: fighter, gunner, caster and support. Each army also has a single super-unit (a ninja for the Council, a gruesome Wraith for Elves), which, for the Dwarves is a dude with a rocket launcher.
Part of next week’s upgrade will also include Game Center support and a new battlefield with teleportation squares. I’m guessing that means Hero Academy is receiving a free software update alongside the presumably-for-pay Dwarf DLC.
I’m going evangelize here and declare that Hero Academy is the most fun I’ve ever had with an iOS game (technically built for iPhone, however. There’s no iPad version just yet.) It is a turn-based strategy game similar to Nintendo’s Advance Wars, but with a randomized allotment of units. Huge, huge fun.
