Shinji Mikami and Bethesda Looks to Strike Fear Into Our Hearts
Yeah, you saw that right. A Japanese developer and a Western studio are going for the gold in a collaboration title, and so far, the effort looks to be solid and scary. For those who still don’t know who Mikami-san is, he’s the creator of Resident Evil, was a director for Clover Studio’s silly fighter Godhand, and served as director for Resident Evil 4. According to the latest issue of Japan’s premiere gaming magazine Famitsu, Mikami-san will be returning to the plagued genre with his studio Tango Gameworks, in a game codenamed “Zwei.”
While Bethesda might be among some of the last studios to think of when it comes to the survival-horror genre, both Tango and Bethesda are subsidiaries to ZeniMax Media. Bethesda will be co-developing the mysterious “Zwei.”
Since the announcement from Famitsu, a short blurb on the project has been added to the studio’s website and also depicts a collage of environmental concept art. that collage sure does look creepy, with moody lighting, a shipwreck, and a dark alleyway. The collage and codename, however, will have nothing to do with the final product, assures the site. “The…image is a collage of different environments we put together for this announcement and is intended to give a feel for the tone and the direction the production is taking,” reads Tango’s website. “However, neither the code name nor the image is intended to tell you exactly what is in the game.”
“I’ve found my focus and once again I’m striving for pure survival horror,” said Mikami-san of the project. “I am being very hands-on to see that the quality is there. Rest assured.”
