Assassin’s Creed Was Once a Prince of Persia Game

Assassin’s Creed Was Once a Prince of Persia Game

A former Ubisoft Sound Designer’s showreel shows that Assassin’s Creed was once going to be a Prince of Persia game titled Prince of Persia: Assassins. The reel also shows an Indiana Jones game which makes me glad for the Lego Indiana Jones game. But being the grumpy guts I am I’m unwilling to accept any Indiana Jones game that’s not point-and-click. As for Ubisoft’s original plans to launch Assassin’s Creed from an existing franchise, and one that’s brought them lots of success in the past, all I can say is that I’m glad they changed their mind early on.

There’s nothing wrong with Assassin’s Creed being born out of Prince of Persia, but I love both franchises, and considering how Assassin’s Creed has moved away from Persia into something global it’s nice that they’re unrelated. Who knows, if Assassin’s Creed still bore the Prince of Persia name we might never have got the newer POP titles. Many will lament that, but I liked Prince of Persia (the 2008 game). Even if it was awkwardly titled.

This news from the annals of Ubisoft follows their release of early concept art which you can spot in the image above and also see here.

All About Dan Spicer ...

Dan does "What Dan Does", normally involving screwing over the premise of the game just to have fun. When he's not being obnoxious in video games he's doing the same when playing tabletop RPGs and Magic: The Gathering. He's currently studying philosophy in London, and trying to cook as many pancakes as humanly possible.
