Darkrai lies in wait, over WiFi

Darkrai lies in wait, over WiFi

Continuing what must be Nintendo’s longest-running free DLC program, the “super popular”* pokemon Darkrai is now available to download into your copies of Pokemon Black and Pokemon White.

For one month, all you have to do is fire up your Nintendo DS with Black and/or White, head to the Receive Gift menu and select Nintendo WFC. Assuming you haven’t already filled up the cartridges’ pre-determined allotment of DLC slots (it’s 11), you can receive your Darkrai and get to battling.

Naturally, Nintendo isn’t doing this just because they love you. The Darkrai download is a not-so-subtle plug for both new Pokemon Trading Card Game cards and a free online screening of the 2007 animated film “Pokemon: The Rise of Darkrai.” Read more about it all right here at the official Pokemon website.

*According to the blurb that pops up when you download the critter.

BELLEVUE, WA – May 9, 2012 – Beginning today, The Pokémon Company International is giving fans several ways to experience and wield the nightmarish powers of the Mythical Dark-type Pokémon, Darkrai. Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version video game players can now get a Level 50 Darkrai through a special character distribution via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service. This Darkrai, available until June 10th, knows the Dark Void attack that makes opposing Pokémon sleep, leaving them practically defenseless. Even greater nightmares await your opponent when Darkrai’s Bad Dreams Ability takes effect – the sleeping Pokémon will take damage every turn! Combine this with Darkrai’s Nightmare and Faint Attack moves, and your opponents’ Pokémon will have bad dreams they won’t soon forget.

Pokémon Trading Card Game players can also harness the power of Darkrai when they discover the Darkness-type Pokémon in the new Pokémon TCG: Black & White – Dark Explorers expansion. The expansion arrives at major retail locations across the nation today and features Darkrai as an extremely powerful Darkrai-EX card and also a rare Ultra full-art Darkrai-EX card! Fans can discover Black & White – Dark Explorers booster packs that may include Darkrai or any of five other Pokémon – Tornadus, Kyogre, Entei, Raikou, and Groudon – as Pokémon-EX and rare Ultra full-art Pokémon-EX cards.

Fans can get details on the Darkrai character distribution and check out cards from the Black & White-Dark Explorers expansion by visiting www.pokemon.com/ex. Explore the site further and discover a special showing of Pokémon: The Rise of Darkrai. Darkrai battles the Legendary Pokémon Dialga and Palkia while Ash races to save a town from being thrown into another dimension in this full-length feature film.
